Tomorrow (5th December 2011) is the beginning of the DiSCUSS (Disease · Stem Cell · Unique Signaling · Standpoint) symposium initiated by our Innate Repair Laboratory (Stem Cell Biology laboratory of the Medical Faculty Carl Gustav Carus in Dresden) and sponsored by the Volkswagen Stiftung.

The aim of the symposium is to arouse more interest of the scientific community (stem cell and non - stem cell scientists, physicians) in important topics related to stem cells (SCs): their biology and identity, signaling pathways and therapies based on SCs. Also less common approaches, like targeting endogenous stem cells (as opposite to transplantation), which is in my opinion a really promising approach, will be discussed as well as the involvement of stem cells in the normal and diseased tissues. The symposium is the first of its sort in Dresden and the Volkwswagen Stiftung deserves much respect as a sponsor. |
